75 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY
WHEN:
2011
ARCHITECTURE FIRM:
While I was working for KPF, as a design architect, I worked on the entry facade, and lobby design of this 32-story landmark building.
We proposed the original lobby, which only opened toward the South Plaza, to become a wide concourse/passageway that connects the South and the North Plaza/ MOMA and to be adorned with art in keeping with Rockefeller’s original vision.
On 51st Street facing the famous Rockefeller Plaza, we proposed the massive but damaged bronze plaque to be replaced with a fortified new bronze plaque and to be refurbished with new energy-efficient glazing using parts from the original building to keep the building authentic. The architectural bronze recovered from the renovation was collected and reused where possible.
